No one is ever too old to achieve a beautiful smile. An orthodontic consultation is the first step to achieving oral alignment and the smile you’ve been dreaming about. We understand that trying something new can be nerve wracking, especially if you don’t know what to expect! Our team at Unionville Orthodontics has put together this blog post to help you better understand what to expect when you come in for your consultation.
• A review of your medical and dental history
We will need to know the last time you saw your dentist, and receive your previous dental x-rays. This will help us set a foundation for your treatment. You’ll also need to fill out some paperwork about your dental history, and provide us with your insurance information. We will contact your dentist and/or doctor if more information is required.
• Oral exam and imaging
Some orthodontic issues might not come up in your records. Imaging will help us determine what treatment we need to conduct. We will examine your teeth, and may request to perform a panoramic x-ray or cephalometric x-ray. This will allow us to take a closer look at your oral cavity, teeth, and underlying jaw structure.
• Treatment planning
After your oral examination, we will determine if there are any dental issues that need to be corrected before we move forward with orthodontic treatment. If there are any problems, we will refer you back to your dentist. If not, you’re good to go! Together with Dr. Lee and your treatment coordinator you will choose a treatment plan that best fits your needs and lifestyle!
- Question and answer session
This is a chance for you to express any concerns about your teeth, ask about possible treatment options, and learn about any lifestyle changes required during your treatment. You can also make inquiries about cost, flexible payment plans, and insurance.
