Changes and Updates at Your Markham Orthodontist Regarding COVID-19

ARE YOU READY TO TRANSFORM YOUR SMILE?

BOOK AN APPOINTMENT

It’s safe to say that no one was expecting the year 2020 to be one of social distancing, self-isolation and N95 facemasks. The Coronavirus pandemic has caused a wave of change in the way we live our everyday life. From working remotely to simply going to the grocery store, it seems as though everyone has been affected by Covid-19, in one way or another.

Although we are just as frustrated as our patients for having to shut our doors, our team at Unionville Orthodontics isembracing the changes as they come and will continue to adapt as we transition into a new kind of normal. Our patients will remain our top priority and we’ve implemented new tools to stay connected until we can meet smile to smile once again.

Update on Reopening

We are currently waiting for new guidelines from the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario for more information on when we can continue booking appointments as usual. In the meantime, we are only able to schedule appointments that are classified as an emergency. That being said, we are devoted to all of our new and existing patients and are available for you via email or by phone (1.905.477.7186) with any questions or concerns.

Oral Health At Home

Due to the restrictions currently placed on dental practices, we ask that all our patients maintain their orthodontic treatment at home. Here are a few tips based on specific orthodontics:

Braces

  • Brush and floss well
  • Avoid sticky and/or hard foods
  • Use wax provided for poking wires
  • Stop wearing elastics if a bracket is loose

Invisalign

  • Continue to change your aligner until what would have been your next appointment
  • If you run out of aligners, continue wearing the last one for at least 12 hours a day
  • Wear elastics as prescribed until what would have been your next appointment, then only wear overnight

Expanders

  • Brush and floss well
  • Avoid sticky and/or hard foods
  • Do not turn your expander more than what was recommended at your last appointment
  • Having a gap in front teeth is normal after expanding and can be corrected

Carriere Appliance

  • Avoid sticky and/or hard foods
  • Wear elastics as prescribed until what would have been your next appointment, then only wear overnight
  • If the bottom retainer is compromised do not wear elastics

Separators/Spacers

  • Spacers may fall out but can be replaced upon our reopening
