We had a fun and spooky Halloween and hope you did too! We all enjoy the treats that come with this season, but they can have an impact on your teeth, including your orthodontic treatment. Dental care during Halloween is particularly important, especially if you have braces! You can enjoy the Halloween candy you sought after all night, just be sure to follow our tips to maintain good oral health.
Treats we approve of (soft, non-sticky candy):
Chocolates such as Kit Kat, Hershey Kisses, or Reeses Peanut Butter Cups or Malt Balls
Pixie Stix or Candy Dust
Ice cream
Treats we recommend you AVOID (hard, sticky candy):
Lollipops
Toffee
Gum (that isn’t sugar-free)
Why should you avoid hard, sticky candy? The residue left behind can be difficult to clean off your teeth, leaving sugar to eat away at your enamel. Hard candy can also damage brackets and wires if you have braces!
Stick to soft non-sticky treats this Halloween and your smile will thank you!
